| Abstract |
| The purpose of the present study is to probe the linkage of women’s educational attainment to economic empowerment of Imphal Districts of Manipur. The sample comprised 500 currently married women aged 21 to 70 years from the Imphal districts (Imphal East and Imphal West). Among them, 250 were categorized as educated (having completed at least high school) and 250 as less-educated (not having completed high school). Data were collected during 2018 – 2019 using a convenient stratified random sampling technique based on specific inclusion criteria. Primary data were gathered through interviews with respondents using a structured schedule that included demographic details and six questions related to economic security. Consent was obtained from all respondents after providing them with the necessary information. Descriptive (frequency distribution and percentage) and analytic (chi-square test for group comparisons) statistical methods were used for data analysis. The present study highlights how education transforms women’s demographic and economic status. Educated women attain better occupational positions and marry highly qualified, higher-earning spouses. They also enjoy higher monthly household incomes. Compared to less-educated women, educated women are more likely to own a house or land (individually or jointly), possess valuable assets like gold or silver jewellery, maintain a savings bank account, participate in micro-credit or savings programs and engage in paid employment outside the home. Therefore, improving the educational standards of women in Manipur is of utmost importance. |
