Abstract
This paper explores the philosophy of Mahima Dharma and the profound contributions of Bhima Bhoi, an iconic poet and social reformer from Odisha, India. Through an analysis of his seminal works, including Stuti Chintamoni, Bhajanamala, Brahma Nirupana Gita, Astka Bihari Gita, Nirveda Sadhana, Sruti Nisedha Gita, Cautisa Madhu Cakra, and Adi Anta Gita, this study examines Bhima Bhoi’s emphasis on spiritual egalitarianism, devotion to the formless divine (Alekh), and his call for social justice and equality. Bhoi’s writings, while grounded in mysticism, also serve as a powerful critique of the caste system and religious orthodoxy. His vision of a just society transcends religious boundaries and advocates for the dignity of marginalized communities. This paper engages with both historical and contemporary scholarship on Mahima Dharma, positioning Bhima Bhoi’s teachings as a critical intersection of spirituality, literature, and social reform. It also highlights the ongoing relevance of Bhim Bhoi’s philosophy in modern discourses on environmental justice, and human rights.
